I love it! When you offered the local guy (making assumption here) he declined immediately! Knock off scorpion... too funny.

Thanks so much for your message! Glad you're enjoying Word Travels! I did not sample dog while in Beijing. They certainly don't have it in the Donghuamen night market...Thanks for the tip about the "lamb!"

    Hi Julie,

I love watching your show. You and Esrock make a good team.

While in Beijing, were you able to sample any dog ? I know it's a staple of many Chinese, having seen vendors in Shanghaiand Beijing openly selling and displaying canine breeds.

During the Olympics, the Chinese Government took steps to temporarily suspend dog meat markets, but within days of the end of the Games, it was business as usual.

Here is another tip. Many Chinese will get Westerners to to try dog, say is it "lamb" often disguised within a cloyingly sweet soy based sauce.
It happened to me a few times until a Chinese colleague filled me in.

Ewww is right :) I surprisingly don't get sick from eating such strange things. I think my body has build up a 'gross foods' immunity or something....
  • Jess
    Ahhhhhhh!
I don't think I could muster the courage to down such an eclectic array of foods.
    Bravo!
  • Love your expressions while munching on the "scrumptious" snacks!
And here I thought that I would love all things fried...

Are you ever scared of getting sick after a night of street food eating on your travels?
